History

The building complex dates back to the 17th century when it was constructed during Turkish rule by a Turkish Aga. During its early years, complex operated as a Metochi, which refers to participatory agriculture on a farm. The complex consisted of various structures, including the main house, stables, warehouses, and ten lodgings for farmers and their families. The courtyard of the complex was notable for its Π shape and was constructed using pebbles. In the 1930s, the Kalliteraki family purchased the complex from its previous Turkish-Cretan landowner. Since then is  part of the Kalliterakis family’s ancestral property, and it retains its historical and cultural significance within the region.

Epilogue

It’s truly heartwarming to hear about the countless happy memories and cherished moments that have been woven into the fabric of Musafir Crete. The house has been a witness to numerous gatherings, where friends and family have come together around the table, sharing laughter and creating lasting bonds. It has also provided a sanctuary, offering a peaceful respite from the bustling city lives, allowing for moments of tranquility and introspection. Within the walls of Musafir, books have been written, and children have joyfully played, leaving their footprints of joy and innocence. As we have treasured these memories, we hope that future visitors to Musafir Crete will also find their breath, their rhythm, and their own unforgettable moments within its embrace.

Musafir Crete holds a special place in our hearts, and its doors are open, ready to become the vessel for creating beautiful and meaningful memories for all who have the privilege to visit.
